After
graduating in 2004 from the University of St Andrews, BSc Psychology, Gillian traveled to live and work in Mexico
City. There she quickly fell in love with the culture, the people, the
climate and the vast and varied landscapes.
Gillian
trained for her Diploma in Massage therapy at the Centro Holisico
Latinoamericano where the course included Holistic massage, Swedish
masage, Tui-na, Shiatsu, anatomy and physiology. She was examined and
certified as a Shiastu Practicioner by the SEP, the Mexican Education
Authority. She also obtained certificates in Reflexology, Mayan Shawl
Massage, Reductive Massage and Chocolate Therapy. She studied ancestral
shamanistic healing techniques and cleansing rites that are still used
today in Mexico. She became a Reiki Channel Master and likes to bring
this healing energy to all her massages. Her last job in Mexico was near
the ancient Mayan ruins at Cobá, Yucatan, where she managed a Spa in
Coqui Coqui, an exclusive small hotel in a beautiful jungle village.
Upon
returning to Ireland in 2010 Gillian set up practice in Dalkey Natural
health Clinic, in Dalkey, Co Dublin. As well as her regular treatment
Gillian enjoys working in the Body and Soul Healing Area at festivals
such as Electric Picnic and can be called upon to treat musicians
before a gig.
Gillian
always found working on pregnant ladies very rewarding as they are so
sensitive and receptive to the treatments. To deepen her knowledge and
skills she went to Edinburgh to do a postgraduate workshop in pregnancy
massage with Onie Talbot and gained a specialist certification that is
recognised by the Royal Society of Midwives in Scotland.
In 2013 Gillian moved to Cork city and began working out of the lovely setting of Dervish Holistic Center in Cornmarket Street and there, in 2014, she helped to found the Dervish Massage Co-op!
